Pink Sandollar Montipora venosa Reeffarmers Seed Colony. Our original
small fragment had doubled in size when this image was taken. |
When we acquired our original small fragment, the base of the coral was light blue in coloration. This color has morphed to a light green base with the edges of the coral being pigmented blue. The main exotic attraction of this coral however, is the unique bright pink red polyps that extend during the daytime photoperiod. The polyp mouths are bright pink, while the tips of the tentacles are a bright whitish pink. Overall the polyps have a deep Pink/Red pigmentation (see closeup image below).
Steve Tyree is maintaining a seed section of the Pink Sandollar Montipora venosa for Reeffarmers.com in an 125 gallon naturally filtered Tri-Zonal Reef Aquarium. In Steve's captive reef the coral is positioned to receive moderate light under a 400 watt 20,000 K Radium Metal Halide. The coral probably needs intense illumination to develop the blue base coloration. The Pink Red Polyps pigmentation only requires moderate illumination levels. The price is currently $70 per small sized fragment.
Please note Reeffarmers is no longer taking new reservations for new corals. The current economic conditions are not supportive for reservations that extend for a few years into the future. After this first edition is distributed, we will sell future captive produced fragments on either our Buy It Now page or via another silent auction. We will still list exotic corals as Limited Editions and will continue to build web pages for them.
