ReefReady Hurricane Echinophyllia Reeffarmers Seed section. The corallites
on the Reeffarmers seed colony have grown to very large proportions. Also note the tuberculae or bumps
on the surface of the coral.
The ReefReady Hurricane coral is another one of the amazing Reverse Watermelon corals. The Reverse
Watermelon Echinophyllia Corals have green to turquoise colored base pigmentation with bright orange to
pink corallite centers. The ReefReady Hurricane also has some unique characteristics. The Corallites can
actually grow to be very large (see image above). There are also lines of red pigment that occur within
the corallites orange center (see image below). These exotically colored corallites make an awesome site
when they grow large in size. The base coloration of this coral is a Pine Green coloration and there are
some tuberculae or bumps on the surface. The corals base is similar to the Bubble Gum Monster Reverse
Watermelon, but the shade of green is slightly darker. Reeffarmers received our seed of this coral
directly from Matt of ReefReady.net . Matt
acquired the coral during the summer of 2007. It may have come from Australia but we are not certain.
Steve Tyree is maintaining a seed section of the ReefReady Hurricane Echinophyllia for Reeffarmers.com
in an 125 gallon naturally filtered Tri-Zonal Reef Aquarium. In Steve's captive reef the coral is
positioned to receive Weak to moderate light under a 400 watt 20,000 K Radium Metal Halide. The coral
appears to require weak to Moderate illumination to retain its coloration. Please note -
Reeffarmers retired this coral in August 2010 due to a loss of its seed. If we can
acquire another seed we will bring this coral out of retirement.

Note the lines of red pigment that radiate out from the corallite center.
