This intensely pigmented deepwater Acropora species was exported from Kupang Indonesia in 2005.
The original colony was acquired on a tranship to Eric Caamano of the Retail Shop
Fragfarmers.com . Eric traded a seed fragment of this
coral to Reeffarmers in late 2005. The coral has been named 20,000 Leagues Lokani because it
is was exported as one of the 'deepwater' Acropora corals. The 20,000 Leagues is from '20,000
Leagues Under the Sea'. Eric has been maintaining the coral under weak to moderate light levels
where the deepwater species developed intense purple tip branches with a turquoise pigmented
base. This gives the coral an unusual turquoise and purple color combination (see image above).
Reeffarmers placed its initial seed fragment under moderate to intense light levels. Under this
strong light the coral developed a solid purple blue pigmentation (see image below).
Steve Tyree is maintaining a farmed section of this
coral for reeffarmers.com in one of his 125 gallon naturally filtered Tri-Zonal Reef
Aquariums. In Steve's captive reef the coral is positoned to recieve strong light levels
under a 400 watt 20,000 K Radium Metal Halide. Limited Edition Reservation price for fragment
is currently $110 per small sized fragment. The monthly limited edition reservation
schedules can be found below.
Please note Reeffarmers lost its seed of this coral very early. We were not able to deliver on these
reservations. We also believe that almost every early seed of this coral was lost. Most of
the corals sold nowadays as the 20,000 Leagues Lokani appear to actually be the 30,000 League Under
the Sea Acropora. The original 20,000 League was very sensitive to captive fluctuations.
