In the past 2 years we have had 3 to 4 different Echinophyllia species corals
within our facility that had pink and blue pigmentation patterns. We unfortunately
had difficulty keeping track of all the fragments. So we basically ended up with
3 different morphs of Pink and Blue Chalice in the past few years. This mixing and
tracking problem has not occurred with other Limited Edition corals. We decided
eventually to distribute the Pink and Blue Chalice imaged above as the True unique
Reeffarmers Pink and Blue Chalice. Some of the Pink and Blue Chalices distributed
in the past were similar to the Dessert Plate coral with more solid pink colored
corallite centers. The coral we are now distributing has a very exotic pigmentation
pattern. Its base coloration is bluish, while the pink pigmentation occurs as spots
all over the surface. Some very unique and interesting patterns can be seen. Note
how there are line patterns going out to the edges of the coral. Corallite centers
are bot solidly colored but have spots or dots of pink.
Steve Tyree is maintaining this coral for
reeffarmers.com in one of his 125 gallon naturally filtered Tri-Zonal EG Reef
Aquariums. In Steve's captive reef the coral is positoned at about 20 inches
from a 400 watt 20,000 K Radium Metal Halide. Water current is moderate.
Update June 2007 - Reeffarmers has
retired this coral as a Limited Edition. We still farm the coral and distribute it
as a Farmed Exotic. Fragments are available and we will honor any old reservations
that are still wanted. Retirement price was set at $35 to $45 depending on size.
This is an old school coral that was mainly retired due to a lack of new reservations
at the $70 price.
