Fire Echinopora lamellosa

Limited Edition Fire Echinopora lamellosa Reeffarmers seed. This blue plating Echinopora lamellosa has some amazing polyp pigmentation.
Polyp centers are bright green but they also contain some very unique fire orange colored pigments.
These orange pigments mainly occur in the base of the polyps tentacles, but they also run furthur along the tentacle.
Near the tips, the tentacles become transparent, while the end of the tentacles are white.

This Echinopora lamellosa has a blue base pigmentation that is similar to the original Blue Chalice Echinopora lamellosa Limited Edition coral. This new Fire Echinopora however contains some additional amazing pigments. The polyps mouth and base area are colored bright green and the polyp tentacles themselves contain some amazing Fire Orange colored pigments. These pigments mainly occur within the base sections of the tentacles. Note in the upper right polyp within the above image that there are also green rays of pigments. These lines or rays travel outward between tentacles. Along the edges of the rays the green pigments can mix with the fire orange and produce some yellow coloration. The Fire Echinopora lamellosa originated from Jason Fox Signature Frags. This coral was acquired from a transshipment in 2007. We do not know what part of the world the coral was exported from. Jason coined the phrase Fire Echinopora to describe this coral. He also believes the coral develops more fire orange pigments in low light. Steve Tyree is maintaining a seed section of this coral for Reeffarmers.com in an 85 gallon naturally filtered BiZonal system. This system is naturally filtered with a semi-cryptic zone and a reef flat exposed zone. In Steve's captive reef the coral is positioned to receive weak to moderate light levels from a 400 watt 20,000 K Radium metal halide. The price of this coral per small fragment is $100.
