We have recently discovered that there are Echinophyllia coral morphs that contain variations to the brilliant pigmentation patterns found within the original Watermelon Alien Eye coral. Those original pigments include an overall bright pink pigmentation on the corals main surface. The corallite centers are brightly colored green, while the outer growth edge of the colony also develops bright green pigmentation. Within the corallite centers, the Alien Eyes, there are also dots or spots of pigments mixed in with the brilliant green base pigmentation. This new Jayda's Watermelon Alien Eye coral contains Alien Eyes that have a Yellow coloration. It appears that there are yellow pigments within the green corallite centers (see closeup image below). Some yellow coloration may also be occurring from a mix of pink and green pigment mix. Reeffarmers acquired its seed fragment of this coral from Greg Carroll of Southern California (gcarroll). In late 2005, Greg noticed a small fragment of this coral residing in a reef aquarium within the retail reef shop Passion of the Sea. Anthony the store owner had managed to salvage one fragment of this interesting colony after it had experienced import shipping stress. Greg acquired the only surviving fragment and that original fragment has developed into the brilliantly colored colony imaged above. Greg decided to name the coral 'Jayda' after his daughter Jayda. Steve Tyree is maintaining a farmed section of this coral for Reeffarmers.com in one of his 125 gallon naturally filtered Tri-Zonal Reef Aquariums. In Steve's captive reef the coral is positoned to recieve moderate light under a 400 watt 20,000 K Radium Metal Halide. Limited Edition Reservation price is currently $155 per small sized fragment. The bimonthly limited edition reservation schedules can be found below.

This closeup of a large Alien Eye from Greg Carrolls parent colony shows the pigment detail.
There are yellow pigments present, but the yellow appearance may be generally enhanced by a
mixture of pink and green pigments in the eye area.
