The Passion Fruit Chalice has a lot of potential to develop some very interesting color morphs. The main surface of the chalice is primarily pink with specks and splotches of blue cream colored pigments scattered across the surface. Corallite eyes are golden yellow with specks and splotches of additional pigments. The leading growth edge of the coral is green colored. This chalice is very similar to a watermelon chalice with some unique pigment variants all its own.

The Passion Fruit Chalice was originally imported early in 2010. The original colony was lost, but Reeffarmers managed to save two seed fragments of the coral. One of these seeds has remained in our grow-out tanks and has successfully adapted to captivity. The coral is growing well and even develops that puffy happy chalice appearence. Reeffarmers acquired our initial two seed fragments of the Passion Fruit Chalice directly from Wet Thumb Frags. We have since given one of our seeds back to Wet Thumb Frags. Reeffarmers has also distributed a couple of other fragments of this coral as an LE Evaluation coral.

Steve Tyree is maintaining a seed section of this coral for Reeffarmers.com in a 130 gallon Raceway Gyre BiZonal system. This system is naturally filtered with a semi-cryptic zone and a reef flat exposed zone. In Steve's captive reef the coral is positioned to receive moderate light levels from a 400 watt 20,000 K Radium metal halide. The price of this coral per small fragment consisting of a single polyp will be determined by the first edition auction below.
