The Pink Elephant Palythoa has a very unique pigmentation pattern for a soft coral polyp. Tentacles can develop bright pink pigments that contain brighter bands. They can appear to be pink striped tentacles. The outer to mid areas of the polyp disk develops bright fluorescent green pigmentation that tends to develop within valleys. This can give the appearence of radiating bright green rays. The inner disk mouth area contains bluish pigments, while the mouth itself can also develop some green. This polyp seems to handle moderate light levels okay and may also do fine in typical low light polyp reefs. Water current requirements are moderate to weak. The Pink Elephant Palythoa does well in reefs that also contain SPS stony corals. The Pink Elephant Palythoa polyps originated from the original Fraggle Reef Coral Shop in Southern California. We do not know where the coral was imported from. Reffarmers has been working with polyps farmed by the Southern California Coral Farmer David Wang. Steve Tyree is maintaining a seed section of this coral for Reeffarmers.com in an 125 gallon naturally filtered TriZonal system. This system is naturally filtered with a semi-cryptic zone, a semi-exposed zone and a reef flat exposed zone. In Steve's captive reef the coral is positioned to receive moderate to weak light levels from a 400 watt 20,000 K Radium metal halide. The price of this coral per small fragment consisting of a single polyp is $80.00. The quarterly limited edition reservation schedules can be found below. The First Edition fragment was distributed at the IE-CFM coral show event in 2009.
