Favia sp.
Pink and Purple Pillow

Pink and Purple Pillow Favia Reeffarmers Seed. This Favia sp. from Indonesia has an incredible solid bright pink
colored corallite center. As can be seen in this image the pink coloration is very intense and a true pink. The
ridges of the corallites develop a purple blue pigmentation. This gives the coral a very striking contrast of colors.

This Favia has an exciting combination of pigments. The center of the corallites contain a solid bright pink pigmentation. This contrasts rather well with the purple blue pigments that develop on the corallite ridges. As can be seen in the closeup image above the corals colors are developed by pigments located in dense spheres or pigment granuales.

Reeffarmers acquired our seed colony from Reef Central member (Wishntoboutside). Richard acquired his original colony of this coral from Anthony from aquadesignz.com who transhipped the coral in from Indonesia. Richard refers to this coral as the Pink and Purple Pillow because the coral will expand its tissue at night slightly and this develops a pillow-like appearence.

Steve Tyree is maintaining a seed section of this coral for Reeffarmers.com in a 125 gallon naturally filtered TriZonal system. This system is naturally filtered with a cryptic zone, filter feeder zone and reef flat exposed zone. The coral appears to prefer moderate current.

In Steve's captive reef the coral is positioned 15 inches away from a 400 watt 20,000 K Radium metal halide. The coral appears to develop its most intense coloration under moderate illumination. This helps to maintain the brilliant pink corallite center pigments. Please note - Reeffarmers retired this coral in August 2010 because we lost our seed colony, but thanks to the good work of Southern Californian reef aquarists Jose Casas and Hugo Zuniga (snipersps), we have acquired another seed section of this exotic Favia. The coral was brought out of Reeffarmers retirement in September 2011. We will sell this coral as fragments are harvested from our new seed.
