The Ponape Torch Staghorn is a formosa-like stag colony that has bright purple
pink polyps along the branches. Along the leading edge of base encrustation the
polyps can be colored bright green. Corallites can become elongated tubular, purple
pink colored and tortuosa-like in appearence. This was one of the exotic stony
corals collected and shipped by Bill Schroer when he was collecting and exporting
from Ponape. This coral was delivered direct to Reeffarmers.com facilities. We have
been maintaining the stag for a few years now. It has adapted well to captivity. In
the above photograph the coral is shown under moderate lighting. Coloration can
become more intense under bright lighting. Tips can also become true-pink under
intense lighting. Steve Tyree is maintaining this coral for reeffarmers.com in a
125 gallon naturally filtered TriZonal system. This system is naturally filtered
with a cryptic zone, filter feeder zone and reef flat exposed zone. In Steve's
captive reef the coral is positoned 14 1/2 inches below a 400 watt 20,000 K
radium metal halide. The purple pink polyp coloration has maintained its intensity
in captivity. Water current is moderate to weak. Price is currently $60 per small
sized fragment. The monthly limited edition reservation schedules can be found below.
Please note effective March 2009 we have changed the
harvesting and reservation schedule to bimonthly. This better matches the corals
long term growth rate in captivity.
