This colorful darker blue Acropora prostrata looks somewhat similar to our
Sky Blue Acropora millepora. It was also exported from Jakarta and Steve
Tyree acquired a salvaged fragment of the parent colony from Aquatic
Creations in early 2003. That initial fragment is now a small colony and
growing very quickly. The coral has an intense blue coloration that is much
darker and more purpleish then our Sky Blue A. millepora. Polyps are
extended during the day. But why is this an A. prostrata and not an A. millepora ?
The corals are very similar as described within the three volume Corals of the
World book set by Veron. The prostrata species however tends to develop
'thin elongate branches' while the millepora species has 'short uniform
branches'. This limited Edition coral has thin and elongate branches. Steve
Tyree is maintaining this coral for reeffarmers.com in one of his 125 gallon
naturally filtered Tri-Zonal EG Reef Aquariums. In Steve's captive reef
the coral is positoned at about 15 inches from a 400 watt 20,000 K
Radium Metal Halide that was 8 months old on 4/1/03. There are also 2 small
T5 actinic fluorescent lights. Water current is moderate. ReefFarmers.com is
distributing 1 farmed fragment of this coral per month. Price is currently $55

be found below. Please note effective September 2008 we have changed the harvesting
and reservation schedule to bimonthly. This better matches the corals long
term growth rate in captivity.
