This coral was named by Alex Agrusa who originally acquired the coral from Michelle Todoverto. We do not exactly know where Michelle had acquired the coral from originally. Alex kept the coral for about a year before distributing any fragments. He named it as his version (Raptors) of the original Peace Coral which was distributed back in 2006. That Peace Coral was a Favites and its names was related to its basic color pattern. The original Peace Coral had corallites that were pink and coral ridges that were green. That was the opposite of the War Coral, which was red with green centers. Thus it was called the Peace Coral. The original Peace Coral was difficult to keep at that time and most reef aquarist lost their seeds. Reeffarmers retired our Peace Coral LE in 2008 due to a loss of our seed.
Original Peace Coral Retired LE Page
Reeffarmers acquired our original seed of the Raptors Peace Coral from the California Reef store Fins and Critters. They had brought a couple of nice looking fragments of this coral to the 2010 IE-CFM Coral Show. That original seed coral is imaged above.
Steve Tyree is maintaining a seed section of this coral for Reeffarmers.com in a 130 gallon Raceway Gyre BiZonal system. This system is naturally filtered with a semi-cryptic zone and a reef flat exposed zone. In Steve's captive reef the coral is positioned to receive moderate to weak light levels from a 400 watt 20,000 K Radium metal halide. The price of this coral per small fragment consisting of a single polyp will be determined by the first edition auction below.
