Acropora millepora
Rouge Millepora

The Rouge Millepora is one of the most spectacular pink pigmented Acropora millepora corals that we have seen.
The unique pink pigments develop an exotic Rouge shade to the corals pigmentation. Polyps also develop a cream white
pigmentation. The leading growth edge of the Rouge Millepora developes a lime green pigmentation.

This incredible Acropora millepora contains some of the most striking pinkish red pigments that we have seen within an Acropora coral. The pinkish Red has an overall rouge appearance. Corallite edges are the most intensely colored areas giving the coral surface a detailed pigmentation pattern. Polyps are colored pinkish to creamish white and can take on a more greenish coloration in some captive environments. The coral in the above image was maintained under a 400 watt 14,000 K Hamilton bulb within a Luminare reflector. The original coral was imported to Todd at AWExotics way back in November of 2002. That coral had been exported from Kupang Indonesia. Todd calls the coral the AWE Rouge Millepora. Unfortunately Todd had lost the original coral for a brief period, but luckily the Advanced Reef Aquarist Tracy Gray had acquired an early fragment from Todd and he was able to resupply Todd with this original stunning Acropora millepora. Reeffarmers acquired our seed fragment directly from Tracy Gray who is still maintaining a backup of the original coral colony. This coral is somewhat similar to the Aquarium City Red Millepora, but there are some significant differences. The Rouge Millepora has large more bushy polyps that can also develop a cream white pigmentation. The Aquarium City Red has also been a very slow grow coral, while the Rouge Millepora grows significantly faster and can develop thicker branches. Steve Tyree is maintaining a seed fragment of this coral for Reeffarmers.com in a 225 gallon naturally filtered QuadZonal system. This system is naturally filtered with a cryptic zone, semi-cryptic zone, filter feeder zone and reef flat exposed zone. In Steve's captive reef the coral is positoned 12 inches away from a 400 watt 14,000 K Hamilton metal halide. The incredibly intense pink pigmentation and colored polyps appear to require moderate to strong illumination. Water current is moderate. Price is currently $80 per small sized fragment. The bimonthly limited edition reservation schedules can be found below.

This polyp closeup of the Rouge Millepora shows the pink to cream white pigmentation of the polyps tentacles.
This coral develops its incredible pink pigmentation over its entire surface tissue. The darker pink areas
contain higher densities of base symbiotic algae, while the brighter corallite ridges contain less symbiotic algae.
