Acropora sp.
Royal Plum Acro

Royal Plum Acropora Reeffarmers Seed. This rare Acropora from the South China Sea area has a solid base Royal Plum
or purple pigmentation. On top of this base coloration the coral develops intense green pigments in areas of the colony
that are exposed to intense light. This helps develop some very odd patterns. The corals polyps extend during the day
and they are slightly bushy and appear to have green pigments. Polyps are retracted for this image.

This stunning Acropora coral has pigment patterns that are similar to the Incredible Hulk Acropora. There is a base purple or Royal Plum colored pigment. Over this purple color an intense green fluorescing pigment occurs in areas of the coral that are exposed to intense light. This is different then the Incredible Hulk Acropora which develops its bright green pigments on branch tips and corallite ridges. The Royal Plum Acro can develop some unique pigment patterns where corallites are half colored intense green and half colored Royal Plum (see closeup image below). The Royal Plum appears to be a different Acropora species then the Incredible Hulk Acropora species which has uniform sized corallites. The Royal Plum has corallites that can vary dramatically in size. Reeffarmers acquired our seed colony from Jason Fox (jafautorepair@yahoo.com). This is a one-of-a-kind Jason Fox coral from his personnal collection which he has spent years acquiring from various sources. The Reeffarmers seed was a 100 % captive grown coral section that Jason grew from a small fragment he acquired prior to 2005. Jason believes that the initial fragment came from the South China Sea area of the Indo-Pacific. Steve Tyree is maintaining a seed section of this coral for Reeffarmers.com in a 125 gallon naturally filtered TriZonal system. This system is naturally filtered with a cryptic zone, filter feeder zone and reef flat exposed zone. The coral appears to prefer moderate current. In Steve's captive reef the coral is positoned 12 inches away from a 400 watt 20,000 K Radium metal halide. The coral appears to develop its most intense coloration under moderate to strong illumination. This helps to bring out the bright green pigments as well as the Royal Plum pigments. Price is currently $110 per small sized fragment. The bimonthly limited edition reservation schedules can be found below.

Royal Plum Acropora corallite closeup image. Note that the green pigmentation
is not just occurring on the tips or on the ridges of the corallites. Green is
developing on areas of the coral exposed to intense light. Slightly shaded areas
are retaining their base Royal Plum purple coloration.
