The Acropora solitaryensis is a very unique acropora species. The
true solitaryensis is only exported to the US market from Indonesia.
The coral grows solid thick plates that are similar in shape to plating
Montipora species. The difference of course is that Acropora polyps
are larger in size then Montipora polyps. There are also a couple of
other Acropora species similar to A. solitaryensis. One is the Acropora
effluorescens and the coral we call A. soltaryensis may indeed turn
out to be the A. effluorescens. The most colorful species and morph of
A. solitaryensis has purple colored edges with bright green fluorescing
polyps. Reeffarmers.com has recieved fragments of two Acropora
solitaryensis. One from Steve Garret of Garretts Acropolis and from
Shaun Monahan of ecorals.com. We are growing these out and will have
captive grown fragments available starting in October 2003. Steve
Tyree is maintaining these corals for reeffarmers.com in two of his 125
gallon naturally filtered Tri-Zonal EG Reef Aquariums. In Steve's captive
reefs the corals are positoned from 14 to 19 inches from 400 watt 20,000
K Radium Metal Halides. Water current is moderate. ReefFarmers.com is
distributing 1 farmed fragment of this coral per month. Price is currently
$75 per medium sized fragment. The monthly limited edition reservation
schedule can be found below. Please note effective January 2008 we have
changed the harvesting and reservation schedule to bimonthly. This better
matches the corals long term growth rate in captivity.
