The Toxic Spill Montipora was discovered and named by Thomas Kosnosky and John Nicoll of Always Tanked Aquaculture. It was found within a local Southern California retail reef shop around March of 2011. The coral was imported within a transhipment from Indonesia. Apparently it did not have the extensive green grafting when it first arrived, but it may have just not been very visible. The green swirls developed more extensively in captivity and the tank it was held within did have a few green fluorescing Pocillopora damicornis colonies. John and Thomas recommend moderate to weak light levels with moderate water current.
Steve Tyree is maintaining a seed section of this coral for Reeffarmers.com in a 130 gallon Raceway Gyre BiZonal system. This system is naturally filtered with a semi-cryptic zone and a reef flat exposed zone. In Steve's captive reef the coral is positioned to receive moderate to weak light levels from a 400 watt 20,000 K Radium metal halide. Water current is moderate. The first edition fragment was sold Buy It Now for $125.00
