The golden coloration of this corals corallites are plainly visible. Also note that oddly
a couple of the corallites are green. The leading green edge of the coral can be seen in
the upper left. The surface of the coral is pink, but the left side of this image shows
how some areas of the surface can be slightly bluer in coloration.

Another interesting chalice from John at Your Reef. The YR Golden Eye Chalice has some brilliant golden colored corallite eyes. Additionally there are some interesting qualities to the surface pigments. The surface of the coral is primarily pink, but some areas develop a more blue coloration. A few corallites on the original coral were colored fluorescent green instead of the normal brilliant golden color. It is possible that new corallites begin green colored and then morph to the golden color as they fully develop. The leading edge of the coral also develops a bright green ring. The corallites of this coral are flat and they do not protrude. There are small surfaces protrusions (spikes) that occur on the corals surface.

This coral was obviously named for its brilliant golden corallite eyes. It is a Your Reef (YR) original and was transhipped from Indonesia by John at Your Reef. The coral was acquired in Late 2009 and it was only moderately colored. Its pigments intensified over 6 months in captivity. John recommends moderate light and moderate to strong water flow.

Steve Tyree is maintaining a seed section of this coral for Reeffarmers.com in a 130 gallon Raceway Gyre BiZonal system. This system is naturally filtered with a semi-cryptic zone and a reef flat exposed zone. In Steve's captive reef the coral is positioned to receive moderate light levels from a 400 watt 20,000 K Radium metal halide. The price of this coral per small fragment consisting of a single corallite will be determined by the First Edition Silent Auction.

Please note Reeffarmers is no longer taking new reservations for new corals. The current economic conditions are not supportive for reservations that extend for a few years into the future. After this first edition is distributed, we will sell future captive produced fragments on either our Buy It Now page or via another silent auction. We will still list exotic corals as Limited Editions and will continue to build web pages for them.
