The Mother of Pearl MOP Acropora develops a unique shimmering pearl-like pigment coloration. Branch tips tend to be purple, while corallites are bright blue. Polyp tentacles can be colored dark blue. Branch stems between corallites can be colored bright green. When exposed to bright light the pigments appear to develop an amazing sheen or luster. This shimmering luster explains how the Mother of Pearl Acropora was named.

This coral is a Wet Thumb Frags (WT) original. They acquired the coral in 2006 as an imported colony. The original colony was almost lost a couple of times, but Dan of Wet Thumb Frags managed to save tiny frags of the coral each time. Eventually they grew back a seed colony of this coral. The original colony had a tabular form. Dan and Tina believe that strong light brings out the pearl-like shimmering rainbow colors. They also think the coral prefers strong current.

Steve Tyree is maintaining a seed section of this coral for Reeffarmers.com in a 130 gallon Raceway Gyre BiZonal system. This system is naturally filtered with a semi-cryptic zone and a reef flat exposed zone. In Steve's captive reef the coral is positioned to receive moderate to strong light levels from a 400 watt 20,000 K Radium metal halide. The price of this coral per small fragment consisting of a single corallite will be determined by the First Edition Silent Auction.

Please note Reeffarmers is no longer taking new reservations for new corals. The current economic conditions are not supportive for reservations that extend for a few years into the future. After this first edition is distributed, we will sell future captive produced fragments on either our Buy It Now page or via another silent auction. We will still list exotic corals as Limited Editions and will continue to build web pages for them.
